Clearing the Ba'rin River channel—after a 15-year hiatus—to protect agricultural land and restore natural flow in Hama Governorate

The Hama Governorate Water Resources Directorate has carried out comprehensive clearing operations along a roughly 4-kilometer stretch of the Ba'rin River—the first such undertaking in about 15 years. The initiative aims to restore the channel's efficiency and mitigate flood risks that threaten adjacent agricultural lands during the rainy season
The work involved removing accumulated soil, reeds, and sediment, and clearing the path for natural water flow. This restores the channel's drainage capacity following years of accumulated aquatic vegetation and obstructions that had impeded water movement and increased the likelihood of the river overflowing its natural course
These operations are crucial for protecting agricultural land and crops from rising water levels and reducing the risk of flooding in surrounding areas; this fosters a stable agricultural season and ensures a safer working environment for farmers
The Ministry of Energy extends its gratitude to the staff of the Hama Water Resources Directorate for their sustained field efforts in maintaining waterways and enhancing their operational readiness, thereby helping to protect agricultural land and support stable agricultural production in the region
