Idlib Water Resources Directorate Completes Spillway for Al-Bali’a Dam to Manage Excess Water and Protect Agricultural Land
The Water Resources Directorate in Idlib has completed the construction of a spillway for the Al-Bali’a Dam—located at Drain (A) alongside the Al-Bali’a reservoir—designed to manage excess water during the rainy season and prevent water levels from rising and accumulating on agricultural land.
The spillway provides a safe, regulated channel for draining surplus water when levels rise, thereby easing pressure on water infrastructure, reducing the risk of inundation and flooding, and protecting both agricultural land and nearby facilities.
This project represents a significant step toward enhancing the readiness of the water management system within the Sahl al-Ruj (Al-Ruj Plain) project. It improves the management of water inflows during the rainy season, helping to safeguard agricultural land and mitigate damage caused by heavy rainfall.
The Ministry of Energy extends its gratitude and appreciation to the technical staff of the Idlib Water Resources Directorate for their efforts in completing the Al-Bali’a Dam spillway, which strengthens the resilience of the water system and protects agricultural land throughout the rainy season.
